The documentary of "The Soundscape of Istanbul" explains the project from the beginning of Yelmi's research; the importance of urban sounds in terms of cultural heritage, the sound archive, the "Soundsslike" crowdsourced platform, interactive systems and the exhibitions that were designed for raising public awareness...

In the exhibition, the richness of the sound heritage is highlighted. In order to provide a realistic experience, 360-degree auditory journey is presented in three sections: starting with the installation of similar urban sounds, continuing with the section where unique sounds of the cities are experienced separately. In the last area, there is an interactive installation where memories are collected from visitors.

“EKO-ÉCHO İstanbul-Paris: Cities, Sounds and Stories” Exhibition, designed by Assist. Prof. Pınar Yelmi (Işık University Visual Communication Design Department), Charlotte Roux (one of Radio France's sound directors), Assoc. Prof. Sertaç Kakı (ITU Music Technologies Department), publisher Antoine Auger and voice documentary designer Anne Kropotkine, will be exhibited at Galeri Işık Teşvikiye between September 20th and October 12th, 2019 as a part of parallel events of the 16th Istanbul Biennial.

In this workshop, we will determine memory types related to urban sounds and search ways for their visualization within the archive.

Pınar Çevikayak Yelmi was one of the presenters in "ICSSH 2019: 8th International Conference on Social Science and Humanity" which was held in Osaka, Japan between 10-12 April 2019. Yelmi presented her paper titled "Designing an Experiential Exhibition for Raising Public Awareness of Cultural Sounds to Safeguard the Sonic Intangible Cultural Heritage Values".

Pınar Çevikayak Yelmi initiated "Paris Soundsslike Project" during her research at Radio France. The project is located under The Soundsslike Project with the link: paris.soundsslike.com. The symbolic sounds of Paris were determined by public participation and all recorded by Pınar Çevikayak Yelmi so far. Paris Soundsslike Project invites volunteers who would like to contribute with their own sound recordings for protecting the sound heritage of Paris.

Pınar Çevikayak Yelmi will conduct research about Sounds and Sonic Memories of Paris at Radio France, Paris between July-August 2018.

Pınar Çevikayak Yelmi talks about the urban identities of Istanbul and London by comparing cultural sounds of these two cities. Yelmi has been conducting research on the urban sounds of Istanbul since 2010. The talk is based on her PhD research project “The Soundscape of Istanbul” and “London Soundsslike Project” which Yelmi initiated during her research at the British Library.

Pınar Çevikayak Yelmi will give a talk about her doctoral research "The Soundscape of Istanbul" project and the Kiralık Satılık exhibition. The talk will take place at SALT Galata on 14th September 2017 between 18:00-19:00.

For Rent, For Sale exhibition, curated by Protocinema and İbrahim Cansızoğlu, takes its roots from Kiralık - Satılık posters in Beyoğlu district which emphasize the transformation process. Selected urban sounds are displayed in this exhibition to focus on the transformation process in Beyoğlu district. As an example, nostalgic tramway sounds were displayed from The Soundscape of Istanbul archive as the rail tracks of the tramway were already destroyed and the nostalgic tramway was removed. Therefore, the sound of the nostalgic tramway was gone. The exhibition can be visited at Hamursuz Fırını between 9th September - 14th October 2017.
